Currently reading

Embarking on this project has introduced me into an entirely new world mainly that of cybernetics. Stumbling into it though has been like when I first "got" hardcore. It was this feeling of resonance where you just KNOW you've found a piece of what defines you. For instance I am currently reading Stafford Beers book "Designing Freedom", shit is mind blowing in its similarities to my thinking (obviously my thinking has been effected by his writing in many round about ways as he has inspired and innovated on so many levels which permeated techno-society), but it feels good to be home. As a self described "anarchist" it is hard many times to justify my love and belief in technologies ability to set us free rather than just enslave and ensare us. My logic is it's happening one way or the other. I'd rather it be in a way that empowers rather than impoverishes the masses.

I just finished reading "Remembering Tomorrow" by Michael Albert. The interesting and relevant thing about that book was the chapter on "left online" and "shareworld" and his attempt at starting a software development company to leverage the profits into other left projects. Again one of those moments of resonance except this time it was sort of a bum out as his attempts failed. Obviously that doesn't make me want to give up on the Even Pace Creative Collective but it is good to know history to avoid repeating it. Or at the least to not be so surprised when it does repeat.

What is this?

Technology we left is a project I am starting. I am not sure yet wether it is going to be a zine, a book, a movie, a web site, a record.. maybe all of the above. But to the point it is going to be a critique and exploration of technology (particularly cybernetics) and the left (as in wing). The failures, the triumphs, where we've been and we could and should go.

Thus far I have only started scratching out the basics of what and who this will encompass. Hopefully I will have some big news in the next week in terms of "interviewees".
